2013 HITS Triathlon
Our Triathlon had a enormous presence this weekend at two race venues. The race weekend started in La Quinta at Lake Cahuilla Park on Saturday morning 12/7/13. We had 9 athletes compete in the 1/2 Ironman distance race. Veteran team members, Darren Gill, Mike Hebebrand, Kim Parris and Jim Yanoschik all competed in the 1/2 Ironman distance race. Darren was 12th overall and 1st in the 45 to 49 AG with an overall time of 4:47:18. Mike was 18th overall and 3rd in the 45 to 49 AG with an overall time of 4:53:05. Jim was 151st overall and 4th in the 55 to 59 AG with an over all time of 5:50:14. New comers to the team includes Polly Crawford, Noby Itakura, Jennifer Coyle and Rick Winters. Polly was 3rd overall woman with a time of 5:08:14, Noby was 48th overall and 7th in the 35 to 39 AG with an overall time of 5:10:01. Jennifer was 97th overall, 7th woman and 1st in the 30 to 34 AG. Kim was 146th overall 17 woman and 3rd in the 45 to 49 AG. Great performances to all our 1/2 Ironman individual athletes. Relay division in the 1/2 Ironman distance was represented by three strong teams. 1st Place overall relay team consisted of Marc Mone and Richard Johns with a time of 4:54:46, Marc competed in the swim and run while Richard rode the bike. 2nd place overall was represented by Tom Cole as the swimmer, Kevin Elmore on the bike and Lenny Gunn on the run with an overall time of 5:11:38. Rounding out the relays in 6th place overall was Patrice Mills and Martin Wildgoose with an overall time of 5:57:16. Patrice was the swimmer and Martin stepped up and did the bike and the run. Final tally on podium finishes for the day was 7. Well done relay teams and individual athletes at the HITS Championships. Sunday’s events were the Olympic and Sprint distance races. Between the two event distances we had 7 athletes competing. Sprint event was Husband and wife team competing on their 18th wedding anniversary Matt and Keri Crowther, Matt finished 3rd in the 45 to 49 AG with an overall time of 1:12:08 and Keri finished 4th in the 40 to 44 AG. Great job for this couple competing in only their second triathlon! Olympic distance athletes included, Rosalie Michaud, Kevin Schroeder, Sam Ho, Rod Strate and Jason Newstrom. Rosalie finished 2nd in the 40 to 44 Ag with an overall time of 3:01:31. Kevin finished 14th in the 40 to 44 AG with an overall time of 2:46:45. Sam Ho finished 15th in the 40 to 44 AG. Rod Strate finished 2nd in the 45 to 49 AG with an overall time of 2:30:28 and rounding out the group was Jason Newstrom finishing 8th in the 30 to 34 AG. Great representation with another 3 podium finishes on Sunday at the HITS Championships. Stay tuned for information coming soon for the preseason party to discuss training and 2014 team events.
