NOV 2012 Team Results & News

Masters 45+

The team traveled to Mexicali, Baja CA on Saturday, Nov 3, to compete in the 9th Annual Adolfo Cycling Classic.  The team consisted of a composite selection:  David Bautista, 45+, Ernie Sanchez, 40+, Tony Darr and Kenny Caldera 50+, Jose Castillo Pro 1-2, and composite team riders Marvin and Jason Hall 50+ and Cat. 3.  With Manyk Energy Drinks ready to enter the country of Mexico with its product, the team was asked to make a presence and that it did, the following are the results:  Two first places, one second, one third, one fourth and one sixth place.  Additionally, the Pro event the team had its highest placings as follows:  Marvin was 7th followed by Bautista in 11th.  The team doubled up in their age graded categories and Pro 1-2 event.  Well done gents.

Cat 3s

While Ernie & David Bautista were tearing it up down in Mexicali the rest of the Cat 3 team headed out for their 1st group training ride last Saturday.  Most of our new riders where able to make it and came as far away as Santa Clarita & San Diego.  The ride was a success although we ended up going a little harder than the advertised “tempo” pace.  That’s something we’ll work on next month.  Other than that the team is looking solid but not over trained.  Right where we should be this time of year.  A few riders will be participating in the off season TTs but for the most part the Cat 3s are not planning any races until January 2013.  The next training ride will be held Sat. Dec 1st.

Cat 4s & 5s

The Cat 4s had its first training ride last Saturday, November 3, with the 3s and 45s.  Ten Cat 4s came out to ride namely:  Dave O’Brien, Glenn Mendoza, Danny Shaw, Charles Sutphin, Heath Masters, Kyle Murray, Eric Jones, Rod Baine, Everett Bissonette, and Rich Mendez.  Everybody rode very well and are ready to represent next year!  Heath Masters raced the following day at the Triple Crown Mountain Bike Race.  He came in second for the single speed open race, and was the overall series champion.  Good job Heith!

Masters 35+

While most of the team has been laying low this off-season, a few decided to stretch their legs at the Off Season Upgrade Point Series in Ontario on 10/21. CA Pools racers included Chris Bennett, Tom Brown, and Dave Bautista against a hodge-podge of 40 or so others. Despite a sore back, Bennett was aggressive and started a break as Brown and Bautista blocked, but his move was caught. Brown took a hard dig to join a break of three, only to have his break caught, too. Bennett later won a prime and set himself up to be in another break, but that move was also caught. With less than four laps to go, a break of five went loose and Dave Bautista made a great-timed attempt to get across, but was without a good companion rider to get there. Bennett laid down a final chase effort, stringing out the field, but fell about 200m short.

Riders are starting to put in base miles and are looking forward to the first team ride in late November.

More Triathlon Team News…

As the triathlon season winds down and we try to maintain fitness, we still have a few Triathlete’s still going hard and competing throughout the winter. There is the Hits Series Lake Havasu November 10-11 & Palm Springs December 1-2. This series offers a race for everyone, from Sprint to Ironman.. There are a few racing in each location. Let us know if you are racing in either event… It’s always great to compete with fellow teammates. Also we have the local Tinsel triathlon on December 9 and would like to have a great showing in this sprint race. CA Pools/Primal represented well last year. Hope to see you out there.

As we head into the winter months the training will not be so intense and that’s a great time to work on our weak event. We are going to be meeting on Tuesday’s at Vista Murrieta High School at 6:30 PM for speed (track) workouts…great way to increase speed & strength for the final leg of the race. Of course we have the Saturday Domenigoni ride A group starts at 8:00am & B group starts at 7:45, meeting place is Super Target on Clinton Keith & 215 FWY. Great ride to work on speed, stamina & pace line riding. We also have the Sunday Ride leaving Starbuck’s on Temecula Parkway (Home Depot Center)at 8:00am. The ride is posted on the website for ride details.

We are excited about the 2013 team. We look forward to seeing you on the road…
